The Women’s Exchange consignment clothing shop in Williamstown was founded in 1957 by Eleanor Bloedel, a local woman who wanted to provide funding for healthcare in the community. Originally most of the funding went to the Visiting Nurse Association to sponsor various free programs in the community. However, over $100,000 was also given to North Adams Regional Hospital to purchase updated medical equipment.
The Women’s Exchange has grown over the last 50 years to include a furniture and house wares store adjacent to the clothing shop and a Gift Shop at North Adams Regional Hospital. The Women’s Exchange, established by volunteers, still operates mainly with the support of its volunteers and proudly continues its support of Northern Berkshire Healthcare.
