American Heart Association: On February 2, 2007, the volunteers and staff at Northern Berkshire Healthcare facilities participated in the American Heart Association’s National Wear Red Day. This day is part of their Go Red For Women Program, which is a nationwide movement that celebrates the energy, passion and power to band together and wipe out heart disease. The REACH program coordinated a raffle, Red Dress Pin sales and collection of individual donations, which totaled to $375.00 for this endeavor.
Women’s Exchange 50th Anniversary: On February 15, 2007, the Women’s Exchange celebrated their 50th anniversary with an Open House! Announcement was made of the Women’s Exchange Nancy Markgraf Memorial Scholarship, which will award four $500 nursing education scholarships to Northern Berkshire County high school students. Refreshments were served, which included a fabulous cake displaying a picture of the founding members participating in a cake cutting ceremony. The current board members recreated that original cake cutting ceremony, much to the delight of the event attendees. Paul Hopkins, Director of Community Relations-NARH, served as the Master of Ceremonies and Christine Lapedota, Manager of the Women’s Exchange welcomed the guests. Billie Allard, VP of Patient Care Services-NARH acknowledged the generosity of the Women’s Exchange to the healthcare community, after which Mary Flynt, President of the Women’s Exchange Advisory Board addressed the history of the W.E. Richard Palmisano, President & CEO-NBH, closed by recognizing the commitment of the dedicated volunteers and staff.
American Cancer Society-Northern Berkshire Relay for Life: Once again, the American Cancer Society is gearing up to begin their annual fundraiser, Relay for Life. It will be held Friday & Saturday, May 18-19, 2007 at Noel Field in North Adams. Many people from the NBH system have been involved in the past to help this worthy cause. This year, the NBH Volunteer Services Department will be working in coordination with the ACS, to present our volunteers and staff members with various opportunities to become involved in this endeavor and to show our community support!
Paint the Town Purple: Come to North Adams Regional Hospital and you can do this! The ACS’s Paint the Town Purple fundraiser is a pre-curser to their Relay for Life event and will be underway at NARH until mid-March 2007. To participate, simply come to the ground floor Medical Imaging Department or the AYS Volunteer office at North Adams Regional Hospital, look for the poster hanging up and receive your purple ribbon (a suggested donation of $2.00). After you have written a name or message of hope on the ribbon (optional), it will be displayed at NARH with the other donated purple ribbons to create awareness and remembrance.
