Girls' Night Out is Monday, Apr. 26 Apr 20, 2010
(April 20, 2010) REACH for Community Health, the community health education arm of North Adams Regional Hospital, is sponsoring its seventh Girls’ Night Out on Monday, April 26, at North Adams Regional Hospital from 5:30-7:30 p.m. REACH for Breast Health is hosting a dance party-themed evening to get women to enjoy moving toward good health.
Women of all ages are invited to attend this free event. There will be healthy snacks and beverages available and information on health and wellness issues of special importance to women. Call REACH at 664-5236 for more information. The first 100 women attending will receive a small door prize that will help them become more healthy, compliments of REACH and its Growing Healthy Program.
“Spring is here and what better way to welcome the warm weather than with a dance?” said Program Manager Polly Macpherson. “Girls’ Night Out is a fun and educational event, and a good chance to have a night out with friends and neighbors while learning together about the many elements that make up a woman’s overall health and well-being.”
Women will have the opportunity to talk to a wide range of professionals about their health. Registered Dieticians Kristin Irace and Rita Longworth will have tips on what to eat while on vacation and hand out healthy Hawaii-influenced recipes. The American Cancer Society will have its popular skin damage indicator and women can register for REACH’s free skin cancer screening clinics on May 11 and 13. For women over 40 who have not had a mammogram this year, staff from the hospital’s Medical Imaging Department will be on hand to schedule an appointment. There will be information available on how to get help in quitting smoking.
“Wellness is knowing your personal health risks, then setting realistic goals to feel and look good,” said Macpherson. “We invite local businesses who help women achieve these goals to join us.” The Clip Shop of Williamstown will have representatives available to do mini-facials. Massage therapists from In Touch Day Spa and other local practitioners will offer 10-minute complimentary massages. These services will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and attendees should sign up when they arrive. Two Reiki practitioners will be on hand to give brief individual “tunings” and information about the healing and pain relief power of Reiki.
“What would a dance party be with out lots of dancing? Girls Night Out is always about healthy fun,” said Macpherson. “Women can sign up for a half hour line dancing class or a belly dancing class, or ‘dance’ their way through an introduction to the next NARH Community Art Exhibit. The chair-based yoga ‘dancing’ class is expected to be a popular choice for those guests with limited mobility or balance. So allwomen are invited to our dance party,” she said.
