|Stroke Support Group to discuss advance directives Oct. 13|

(Oct. 6, 2011) Northern Berkshire Healthcare’s Stroke Support Group will meet Thursday, October 13, at the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire’s Community Room from noon to 2 p.m. The group is free and open to those who are recovering from a stroke, family members, and caregivers of stroke patients. Space is limited.
The meeting will include a presentation by Beth Hinkley Mougin, MS, LCSW, a medical social worker at the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire. She will discuss the “Importance of Advance Directives,” the desire and ability of individuals to discuss their healthcare wishes with family members and healthcare providers such as doctors.
Hinkley Mougin has facilitated conversations with individuals and families to introduce the decision-making process in the Northern Berkshires for more than 17 years, including work with adult patients and their families and the VNA’s pediatric palliative care program. She also facilitates the Alzheimer’s Information and Support Group at the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire.
Survivors, caregivers, and family members will be able to network and also talk about issues that are important to them.
