The Community Art Program at North Adams Regional Hospital continues its 12th season with an exhibition of nearly 200 works by twenty area artists. The hallways and waiting rooms on four floors of NARH are filled with artwork. An opening reception will be held Thursday, November 10, from 5-7 p.m. with refreshments served in the Short Stay Waiting Room, just off the main lobby. The public is invited to take a guided tour of the exhibit at 6 p.m.
Curated by North Adams artist Sharon Carson, the exhibit includes works in a variety of media, with styles from abstraction to realism. “Those who come to see the exhibit will be treated to an amazing variety of artwork,” noted Carson. “You’ll see intensely colored photographs of New York City by Stephen Dankner, photographs of India by Thomas Mikelson, and large paintings of Egypt by Randall Bentley. I have a wealth of pastel artists in this show. There are images of landscapes, animals and people by four pastel artists – Ellen Questel, Shelli DuBoff, Cheryl Wildermuth, and Robert Lafond. The Berkshire landscape will be well represented by photographers and painters. Several abstract works round out the show.” Each artist shows several pieces; enough for viewers to appreciate their unique sense of creativity. All of the artwork is for sale.
The twenty area artists participating in this show are primarily from northern Berkshire towns, including Adams, North Adams, Williamstown, and Clarksburg, and some artists are from farther afield – Vermont, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. All of the artists loan their work for the six-month long exhibition.
Since 1999 North Adams Regional Hospital has sought to complement the healing process with artwork through its Community Art Program. This program enhances the hospital environment for patients, staff and visitors. Artists have the satisfaction of sharing their art to benefit healing as well as an opportunity to have their work viewed by a wide audience in a busy, public location.
The Community Art Program is grateful to The Ruth E. Proud Charitable Trust for funding both exhibitions this year.
Visitors can pick up a copy of the “Self Guided Tour of the Art Exhibit” at the Information Desk in the main lobby and walk through the exhibit on four floors of the hospital. This exhibition continues through April 2012.
