(Jan. 11, 2012) Louis Reines, MD, MBA, a general surgeon at North Adams Regional Hospital, has earned board certification from the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Reines joined the NARH Medical Staff in September, 2011.
Board certification indicates a surgeon has met the highest standards of education, training and knowledge in the field of surgery, according to the American Board of Surgery. Board certification is voluntary and demonstrates a surgeon’s commitment to quality patient care.
The certification process includes an eight-hour written examination, the Qualifying Examination, which assesses knowledge of general surgery. That is followed by an oral exam by experienced surgeons called the Certifying Examination, which evaluates surgical judgment and decision-making skills.
Dr. Reines is fellowship trained in colorectal surgery and also performs general surgery. His areas of expertise include laparoscopic colectomy, complex ano-rectal surgery and colonoscopy. He is accepting new patients and will see screening colonoscopy consults. Dr. Reines can be reached at Northern Berkshire General Surgery at (413) 664-5999.
Dr. Reines earned his medical degree and a master’s degree in health management from Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in general surgery at the University of Connecticut and his fellowship in colorectal surgery at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
