|NARH awards medical staff and other scholarships to employees|

Lorraine Mancuso, RN, Vice President of Nursing awarded scholarships totaling more than $9,000 on Friday, June 15. Mancuso thanked the members of the North Adams Regional Hospital Medical Staff, who have a long history of supporting continuing education for staff members. Scholarships are also provided by a number of individual donors and family members. Mancuso said the award winners are pursuing further education in a variety of fields from advanced nursing degrees to accounting.
Recipients of Medical Staff scholarships included Melissa Girard (pursuing her RN degree), Margaret Gongoleski (master’s in nursing degree), Dale Ott (bachelor’s in health education), Patricia Shartrand (RN studies), Amanda Sunn (RN studies), and Carol Vivori (psychiatric nurse practitioner studies).
In addition to the Medical Staff scholarships, the ceremony honors several former hospital employees whose families established scholarships in their names, and in memory of individuals who received care at NARH.
The Lillian Liebich Memorial Scholarship Award, established by the Medical Staff at NARH in memory of a longtime director of medical records, was presented to Paul Croutworst (health sciences studies) and Melissa Girard (RN studies at Southern Vermont College).
The Leonard & Edith Baldasarini Award was given to Patricia Shartrand and Amanda Sunn, and the Katherine Bowes Scholarship was awarded to Vanessa Torchia. All are earning their RN degrees at Berkshire Community College.
The Howard Brookner Scholarship, given in honor of Brookner’s years of service on the NBH Board of Trustees, was awarded to Catherine Piechowski, who is pursuing her RN degree at BCC.
Jacob Bonneville, an employee of NARH who is also pursuing his RN degree at BCC, won the Toni Labonte Scholarship. Andre Martell (psychology degree) and Melissa Maxon (accounting degree), both NARH employees, won scholarships from the Walter Timoney Fund.
