|NBH Stroke Support Group meets Nov. 8 at Spitzer Center|
Oct 31, 2012
(Oct. 31, 2012) Northern Berkshire Healthcare’s Stroke Support Group will meet Thursday, Nov. 8, at the Spitzer Center on Ashland Street in North Adams, from noon to 2 p.m. The group is free and open to those who are recovering from a stroke, family members, and caregivers of stroke patients. Space is limited. For more information or to register for the NBH Stroke Support Group meeting, please call 413-664-5321.
The meeting will include a presentation by Amy Deacon, RD, a registered dietitian at North Adams Regional Hospital. Ms. Deacon, a native of Chicopee, Massachusetts, holds a bachelor’s degree in Dietetics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
Survivors, caregivers, and family members will be able to network and also talk about issues that are important to them.
NARH’s Nutrition Services department provides inpatient and outpatient services, including one-on-one counseling for individuals on weight management, diabetes, and other health conditions. A physician referral is usually needed for insurance plans to cover a visit to a dietitian. Patients who cover the cost of the visit themselves need only make an appointment.
NARH dietitians are also available to speak to community groups. The dietitians have volunteered to speak at many types of functions including weight loss groups, church groups, and health fairs. Because NARH is a community hospital, the Nutrition Services department is always available for any individual questions about diet, food, and food safety.
To contact a registered dietitian at NARH, one may call (413) 664-5267 or (413) 664-5000.
