Expectant Parent Classes
The Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice of Northern Berkshire, in conjunction with North Adams Regional Hospital, offers expectant parents classes several times each year. The free classes are held at the VNA & Hospice community room at 535 Curran Highway, North Adams.
Pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, one may call the Birthing Center at NARH at (413) 664-5127.
The expectant parents classes cover topics including growth and development of the fetus, labor and delivery, breathing and relaxation, breast-feeding with a lactation consultant, complications of pregnancy, care of the newborn, postpartum adjustments and a tour of the NARH Maternity Center. The classes also provide the child-bearing couple with the knowledge and skills they need to cope with the stress of pregnancy, labor and birth.
Parents who have completed the expectant parents classes find that they are more prepared for labor and delivery. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about what to expect during childbirth and learn about options for pain control. Preparation of this kind can also help avoid complications during pregnancy.
