Emergency Preparedness

Welcome to the Emergency Preparedness Page

NOTICE: Due to the recent outbreak of flu, as of Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, North Adams Regional Hospital is restricting visits to patients.  Please leave children under the age of 14 at home, and please limit visitors to two at a time per patient.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Are you concerned about the flu? We want our community to know that Northern Berkshire Healthcare and our partners are constantly working to be sure we are prepared for any potential outbreak.

We are in touch with state and federal public health authorities to monitor the situation and any suspected cases in our area. Planning has also focused on ensuring that we have adequate supplies and staff to respond to any outbreak or pandemic.

Right now, it’s important that people in our area be sure to follow basic precautions. They are detailed in some of the links on this page. But the most important precautions you can take are:
  • To be sure you wash your hands thoroughly whenever necessary.
  • When you cough, do so into the crook of your elbow or a tissue, not your hands.
  • If you suspect you have a respiratory illness, consider staying home from work or school to avoid spreading a virus. If symptoms are severe, contact your doctor or our Emergency Department.

Northern Berkshire Healthcare and the local emergency response community are engaged in planning for a flu outbreak and other community-wide emergencies. You can do your part by being prepared for the flu and educating yourself on what to do in an emergency. Click here to be brought directly to the Influenza and You web page or browse the Business, Resources, and Medical Reserve Corps tabs located in the upper left corner of this page to learn more.
