|NARH named "Top Performer Hospital" for quality by The Joint Commission|
Nov 22, 2013
(Nov. 22, 2013) North Adams Regional Hospital has been recognized as a “Top Performer Hospital” by The Joint Commission, the national healthcare accrediting organization. NARH is one of only 18 hospitals in Massachusetts to achieve Top Performer status, and was recognized for exemplary performance in using evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain conditions.
The clinical processes focus on care for heart attack, pneumonia, surgery, children’s asthma, and stroke and venous thromboembolism. New this year is a category for immunization for pneumonia and influenza.
The designation for NARH is based on the hospital’s performance related to accountability measures for treatment of heart attack, pneumonia, surgical care and congestive heart failure. Hospitals are required to select and report on at least four quality measures. Hospitals recognized as top performers had to achieve cumulative performance scores of 95%, and had to achieve performance scores of 95% or better on every reportable accountability measure where there were at least 30 patients treated.
“Our efforts to drive compliance with the core measures have paid off with The Joint Commission recognizing us for safe, quality care that we deliver to our patients,” said Tim Jones, president and CEO of Northern Berkshire Healthcare. “It’s proof that we are giving the best care to each patient, every time. We’re proud to receive the distinction of being a Joint Commission Top Performer.”
“North Adams Regional Hospital and all the Top Performer hospitals have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to quality improvement and they should be proud of their achievement,” said Mark R. Chassin, MD, FACP, MPP, MPH, president and chief executive officer of The Joint Commission. “We have much to celebrate this year. Nearly half of our accredited hospitals have attained or nearly attained the Top Performer distinction.” Only one-third of the hospitals accredited by The Joint Commission were named Top Performers.
The Joint Commission is the leading accreditor of healthcare organizations in the United States.
